Throw a looming threat at a fly in your browser and watch 4,296 MaleCNS neurons and 149,232 synapses decide, wired as they are in the animal from looming detectors through interneurons and descending neurons to motor neurons. The comparison was set up before training, with a rule that a gap must exceed two pooled standard deviations. Real wiring reaches 90 percent in 30 iterations against 77 for a degree- and layer-matched shuffle, but it is not more accurate, since both saturate. A linear classifier on the eye neurons scores 100 percent, so the task is easy.
